Watercolor Society of Oregon Traveling Show Appearing at Cornerstone Gallery During Month of March Cornerstone Gallery of Aurora is proud to present the top twenty paintings from the Watercolor Society of Oregon's 42nd annual Transparent Watercolor Show. They will be on display at Cornerstone Gallery during the month of March, 2008. The top prize "SWEEPSTAKES WINNER" is Chris Keylock Williams of Portland where she is a much sought-after teacher as well as a highly respected watercolor painter with many awards and memberships in watercolor societies to her credit. She began her career along the Oregon coast, and is well-known to artists in this area. The Watercolor Society of Oregon, which was started in 1966, now numbers over 800 members, all of whom must be juried into the organization. The Society presents two shows yearly, one in the Spring, which includes works done in any aqueous media (watercolor, gouache, inks, acrylics, collage), and one in the Fall which is strictly transparent watercolors. Each show consists of 80 paintings selected by a nationally acclaimed juror. From the 80 paintings, the juror then selects 20 award winners which will travel around the state, giving people throughout Oregon an opportunity to see works by some of Oregon's finest artists. This will be the last chance to see the show, which began in Prineville, and has been to Roseburg, Coos Bay and Lincoln City, making Cornerstone Gallery one of the few galleries to be selected to present this outstanding show of Oregon's top watercolor artists. This current show was selected by Dan Burt of San Antonio, Texas. Dan is the author of the North Light Book "You Can Paint Vibrant Watercolors", and a member of the Dolphin Fellowship of the American Watercolor Society, a signature member of the National Watercolor Society and a member of Allied Artists of America. He also belongs to the Audubon Artists, Watercolor West, Rocky Mountain National Water Media Society, Transparent Watercolor Society of America, and the Texas Watercolor Society. An octogenarian and then some, this lively innovative artist has given workshops and juried shows all over the nation. Although his earliest work was quite architectural in subject matter, somber in color and mostly done in oils, Dan switched to watercolors and discarded earth tones in favor of brilliant lively splashes of pure watercolor pigment. He works in a spontaneous free style which is reflected in his top twenty choices for this traveling show. Catalogs with color reproductions of all the works juried into the show will be available at Cornerstone Gallery. |
