Wendy Givens
Artist's Statement:

I am a native Oregonian and have enjoyed drawing and painting all of my life. I also have a graphic design degree and enjoy working out interesting layouts of type and color. My paintings reflect my graphics background in that I like to use colors and shapes that appeal to people visually as well as create an emotional response.

I work in oil pastel and in acrylics and at times combine them both to create interesting textures. I usually start with an underpainting of black or another deep rich color. It is exciting to me to see the painting emerge out of this dark value into the light.

Inspiration for my paintings comes from places we have visited or sometimes just from the way the sun is coming through a blind to fall on a vase of flowers.
