Mary McKenzie Kitzerow
Artist's Bio & Statement:

Even though Mary Mckenzie Kitzerow didn't start watercolor painting until she was well into her real estate career, she has been enjoying it immensely.  Since her recent retirement, she has had more fun than ever with her paintings.

Mary works out of her home studio located south of Molalla on a 50-acre farm with an "incredible view" of neighboring towns and four snow-capped mountains.  She happily shares this serene beauty with her husband, three cats, two dogs, assorted cows, and her parents.  Her mother and granddaughter have found themselves as subjects in some of her paintings!

Statement:

I have been drawing ever since I can remember.  As an adult I did some work with pastels.  Then I discovered watercolor!  I enjoy the sheer presence of the watercolor, and I use the traditional technique, no white paint, only white paper and no black paint, only colors mixed from what is in the painting.  I can still get vibrant and luminous colors.

As much thought goes into a piece as the actual painting itself.  That planning, mulling over and re-hashing help me to decide how the painting will actually develop.

It is still exciting to start a painting and it is still hard work to keep going until it is finished.  I feel as long as the subject is interesting to me, I can paint it!
