Jan Glenn
Artist's Bio and Statement

Jan Glenn has been, for the last 30 years, an artist and instructor in a wide variety of situations in a wide scope of media.  She received her Masters of Fine Art from Stanford University in 1972 and has been working as a painter and children’s illustrator for the past several years.  She teaches graduate drawing, painting and creativity classes through the Education Department at Lewis and Clark University.

Jan is an active exhibiting member of the Watercolor Society of Oregon, and is currently teaching classes during the day and in the evening in the Canby-Aurora area.  She paints a wide variety of subject matter. Aside from her work in illustration, she works with portraits, historic houses, landscapes, flowers, often combining calligraphy and imagery in her paintings.  These she sells as cards and prints.  Her paintings are sometimes on exhibit at Cornerstone Gallery in Aurora and Wallflowers Gallery in Canby and other local galleries and art shows.

“Currently I am developing a body of paintings combining calligraphic and visual imagery.  Through the “marriage” of words and images, an artistic statement can be made that penetrates both the heart and the mind.  My interest is in exploring imagery that enters more fully into our deeper natures, providing not only food for thought, but an emotional connection as well.  Ultimately I would hope that my own personal exploration in this area would connect with others who might have their own questions related to why we are here, and what might be our common ground as human beings on this planet.”
